Giving God Permission to Meddle

How many of us are aware of God when He is meddling in our lives? Those of us who know the Lord ought to thank God for meddling. Many of our lives have been spared from further harm, even from death, because God chose to meddle; but we must give Him permission to meddle when we are straying, when we are leaning into temptation, when we think we have it under control.

Peter’s Encouragement in Difficult Times

This letter written by the Apostle Peter was addressed to Christians living in what is now modern-day Turkey. They were believers, yet they were suffering persecution because of their faith.

Choosing Jesus does not mean choosing a life without difficulty. It means being prepared to stand firm in hard seasons. Peter wrote to encourage them to live out their faith no matter what they were facing.

The Word of God brings encouragement, and through the Scriptures, God gives us hope.

Humble Yourself — Go Low

The first instruction Peter gives is to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. That phrase is the key. Humbling ourselves does not mean devaluing ourselves. It means going low so God can be high. The safest place to be is on our knees. God is not an accuser. He is not a manipulator. He will not disappoint. But He does resist pride.

Pride, Correction, and David’s Example

David thought he was strong. He believed, “I’ve got this.” But pride caused him to act independently of God. His decision affected not only himself, but others as well. Sometimes our choices bring consequences that touch our families and those around us. David chose to fall into the hands of God rather than into the hands of man. God chastens those He loves, and it is better to fall into His hands and ask for mercy.

Cast Your Cares

After humbling ourselves, we are instructed to cast our cares upon the Lord. Casting is a sign of true humility. It means admitting, “God, I need You.” We were never meant to carry burdens alone. Emotionally, psychologically, spiritually.

Many of the pressures we carry become strongholds because we refuse to release them to God. Humble and cast. Stop trying to be the hero.

Let God Meddle — He Knows Better

When we allow God to meddle, He will guide our words, our responses, and our decisions. He will tell us when to speak and when to be silent. When to stay and when to return.

God can fix what we cannot. We may apply temporary solutions, but only God brings lasting change.

Final Exhortation

Give God permission to meddle. Do not resist His correction. Do not harden your heart.

Sit with the Word. Listen again. Come into the house of God. Push aside whatever is standing in the way.

God meddles because He loves us, and He desires to bring us out, not leave us where we are.
