Focus Scripture — Isaiah 57:15 (NKJV)

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”

Introduction

Isaiah chapter 57, verse 15.

Reading from the New King James Version:

The High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy, says that He dwells in the high and holy place, and also with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

God says, “I dwell with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”

Recognizing the Source of Revival

Sometimes we pray to God for revival, and in doing so, we recognize the source of revival. God is the One responsible for starting revival and for sustaining revival. He does so when the conditions are right. That is, when our spirits and our hearts are in the right place. When we humble ourselves before Him and feel and express remorse for the sins we have committed, God says He will revive us.
Let me read the Scripture again.

Isaiah 57:15
“The High and Lofty One, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy, dwells in the high and holy place, and also with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Revival can happen individually, or as a group. The revival we are looking for is group revival, revival throughout this country among the saints. We have seen this happen in past revivals in this country. Some common characteristics of those revivals are the initial gathering of a small group of saints.

Revival does not usually start with hundreds of thousands of people at one time. It starts with a small group who are dedicated. As revival begins, more and more people are drawn in. It usually starts with a small group of saints. Within that group, there is confession of sins, both known sins and unknown sins.

Another important aspect is that they are in one accord. They come together with one common goal. They worship God in spirit and in truth. They worship God for who He is and magnify His name. In that worship, things happen. In those small groups, when the preaching is given, the people focus on Jesus and what He has done for them. Jesus is always at the forefront of their communication. When those conditions are met, a shift happens and revival occurs.

It is God who makes that shift from standard worship to revival. Such revivals can last a week, weeks, months, and some have even lasted years. God sustains them as long as He chooses.

Final Exhortation

We should pray that anyone among us who is living in willful sin would repent and turn back to God. We should pray that our hearts would be humble and contrite before Him. Because God has promised that He dwells with the humble and the contrite, and that He revives their hearts.

So let us start preparing for the revival we desire. Let us do those things that are necessary to allow God to move. We should be preparing. We should prepare in prayer. We should pray that anyone among us who is lies their hearts.

Revival is a sudden shift by God. And when the conditions are right, God will do it.
