Exodus 34:13
“But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:”
Introduction
I’d like to share with you this morning, and I’ve entitled it, “Giving Our All as We Shift.”
As we shift in 2026, we must give God our best and our all. Amen.
The Call to Give God Our All
The scripture is found in Exodus chapter 34. In the chapter before us, Moses was commanded by God to make new tablets of stone like the first ones which he destroyed as a result of Israel creating and worshiping the golden calf. Many of you may be familiar with that story.
God commanded Moses to cut out two more tablets, and He would write the words of the first tablets again. We know that what was written on those tablets was called the Ten Commandments. Thus, the covenant was renewed between God and Israel.
Then God sternly warned against making a covenant with the inhabitants of the promised land which they were about to possess. He commanded that they destroy the altars, break down the sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images. And He declared that they were not to worship any other god, because the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous and passionate God, demanding what is rightfully and uniquely His.
Now please note, God is not jealous because someone has something that He does not have or needs, as sinful men and women can be. God is possessive, and He wants what rightfully belongs to Him—our worship, our adoration, and our exaltation. It all belongs to Him exclusively and not to another.
God is jealous. He wants all of us to Himself because He loves us very much and He wants the best for us. Pastor Rod mentioned on Sunday in his sermon, God gave His all for us, and He wants our all.
He desires our all. He deserves our all. And He died for our all. So let’s give Him our heart, our mind, our body, and our soul, holding nothing back, taking down the “do not touch” and “do not enter” signs, and giving God access to our all.
He can be trusted. He can be trusted with our all. His track record is perfect. He can be trusted with our all.
God wants all areas of our lives.
What God Wants from Us
He wants our heart. Surrendering our heart to Him leads to emotional devotion and love. Psalm 51:10 tells us that David prayed,
Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Surrender your whole heart to Him.
He wants our minds. Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. We must align our thoughts with His Word as we surrender our minds to Him.
He wants our bodies. First Corinthians 6:19 reminds us that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and that we are not our own. God wants all, including our bodies, which leads to godly actions and lifestyle choices.
Then we must surrender our will to God, as this leads to submitting our decisions to Him. Proverbs 3:5–6 admonishes us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not to our own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct our paths. Amen.
What Hinders Us from Giving God Our All
What hinders you and me from giving God our all? Could it be fear of losing control? You may think you are in control, but the truth is God is in control. Proverbs 16:9 tells us that a man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. Thus, God is in control.
Could it be distractions from the world? Distractions are one of the enemy’s devices to steal, kill, and destroy believers. Don’t give him the pleasure.
How about doubt? Whatever is hindering you from giving God your all, have a little talk with Jesus. Tell Him honestly what hinders you. Then ask Him for help. Beseech Him for help. He is a very present help in time of trouble and need. More than you want to give Him your all, God wants your all.
Examples of Wholehearted Surrender
Consider Abraham. He was wholeheartedly devoted to God, so much so that he was willing to sacrifice his only son, the son of promise, to the Lord.
Consider the early disciples. Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. They left everything to follow Jesus. They gave up all to follow Jesus. Jesus is worth it. He deserves our all and nothing less. Would you agree with me?
What It Looks Like to Give God Our All
So what does it look like to give God our all?
Number One – daily prayer and seeking God’s will through His Word, the Bible.
<Number Two – self-examination and confession. Again, Psalm 51:10, where David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” When you find that you need to confess your sins and examine yourself, that helps in seeking and giving God our all.
Number Three – trusting God with the unknown. This is what we mean when we pray, “Lord, help me to trust You where I cannot trace You.” Don’t go by your feelings. They fluctuate. Stand firm on the Word of God and trust Him in faith to perform His Word.
The Blessings of Giving Our All
There are blessings in giving your all.
There is the blessing of an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. James 4:8 tells us to draw near to God and He will draw near to us.
There is the blessing of peace—the peace of God which surpasses all understanding. The world cannot give it, and the world cannot take it away.
Then there is the blessing of fruitfulness in life and ministry. John 15:5 tells us that if we abide in Him, we will bear much fruit, but without Him we can do nothing.
There is a saying that states, “If God is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all.”
Final Exhortation
So in conclusion, I ask: Is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid? Your heart—does the Spirit control? You can only be blessed and have peace and sweet rest as you yield Him your body and soul.
Giving our all as we shift in 2026.
Shall we pray?
Prayer
Father, we thank You. We thank You for Your Word. It is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Help us to hide Your Word in our hearts that we might not sin against You. And give us the grace, the strength, and the willingness to give You our all.
Lord, You gave Your all on Calvary’s cross. You died—what more could You do? You gave Your all, and in return You ask that we give You our all: our adoration, our exaltation, our worship. God, we owe it all to You.
So help us to give it to You freely and willingly, with joy and thanksgiving in our hearts. Help us to give You all that You require and all that You desire. We pray this in the name of Jesus, because You can be trusted, You are worthy, and You deserve it.
In Jesus’ name we pray, with thanksgiving. Amen.
