Give Him No Rest — The God Who Meddles

Speaker: A. Barrett | Series: When God Meddles | Focus Scripture: Isaiah 62:6–7, Luke 11:9–10

Focus Scripture
“I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
They will never keep silent day or night.
You who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves;
And give Him no rest until He establishes Jerusalem
And makes her a praise in the earth.”
Luke 11:9–10 (Amplified)
“So I say to you, ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

Watchmen on the Wall

Give Him no rest — the God who meddles. Just like in Isaiah, Isaiah was praying to God for the nation of Israel. And he was saying in verse 7, “Give Him no rest.” He talked about watchmen. When we think of watchmen, we think of men standing on the wall, watching the water, watching for danger coming into the city, But Isaiah was talking about people who are praying. These are people who are interceding. And that is who we are here.

We are watchmen — men and women. We are prayer intercessors. We are the walls for our city, for our nation and the Word says they shall never hold their peace, day or night. “You who remind the Lord, do not keep silent.”

Called, Chosen, Appointed

We are called by God. We were reminded that we are chosen, that we are appointed to live lives every day that bring God glory. And part of that calling is interceding on behalf of others. Isaiah said, “Give Him no rest.”

Who are we not giving rest to? God. Because God wants us to come to Him. He wants us to call upon Him, so He can answer us and show us great and mighty things.

We Need Divine Intervention

Every one of us has a situation where we need God’s divine intervention. There is not one person listening who does not need God to step in. Children, Spouses, Health challenges, Financial challenges, Living arrangements. We need God to interfere. We need God to intervene and since we serve a God who loves us with an everlasting love, we should keep coming to Him.

Give Him No Rest

Let us give Him no rest until He moves. Let us keep coming, keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking.

Isaiah was praying for restoration — restoration of Jerusalem, of Zion. And we want restoration too. In our lives, in our homes, in our ministries. God never slumbers. God never sleeps. Morning, noon, and night, prayer is before the Lord.

Reminding God of His Promises

Giving Him no rest means reminding God of His promises. Not because God has forgotten, but because we need to remember who He is.

For every problem, there is a promise. Find the scripture. Pray the scripture.

Encouraging Yourself in the Lord

The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But we must encourage ourselves in the Lord.

The battle is not ours. It belongs to God.

Persistence in Prayer

Jesus taught persistence. Ask. Seek. Knock. Sometimes we start strong, but then we lose momentum. God wants endurance — from January to December. Persistence does not bother God. It brings Him joy.

Praise Shifts the Atmosphere

When we praise God, we shift our focus from the problem to the Problem Solver. Praise builds faith. Praise brings clarity. Praise reminds us how dependent we are on God.

Closing Prayer

Father God, we thank You. You do not get tired of us. Thank You for the privilege, the right, and the honor to keep knocking at Your door.

We love You. We adore You. We thank You for delivering us out of darkness into Your marvelous light.

Thank You for calling us, choosing us, and appointing us to live lives every day that bring You glory. Amen.
