Don’t Despise Your Small Victories

Don’t Despise Your Small Victories

Scripture

Zechariah 4:10 – “For who has despised the day of small things?”

The prophet Zechariah was sent to encourage God’s people after they returned from exile. They had stopped building the temple, discouraged and weary, and God raised up Zechariah to remind them of their purpose. He told them: Do not despise the day of small things.

Big vs. Small Victories

We love to celebrate the “big wins”—David defeating Goliath, the walls of Jericho falling, or the breakthroughs in our own lives that everyone can see. But God also gives us smaller, quieter victories that matter just as much.

A whispered prayer at 6 a.m. when once you were too afraid to pray—that’s a victory. Choosing patience instead of anger—that’s a victory. Trusting God instead of panicking—that’s a victory.

Building Faith

David remembered the lion and the bear before facing Goliath. His confidence grew through those earlier battles. In the same way, God uses everyday moments to prepare us for greater tests.

Like a sapling that grows slowly into a sturdy tree, our faith develops through seasons of small victories. Over time, those roots make us unshakable.

Reflection & Application

God is not only in the “giant-slaying” moments. He is present in the daily decisions of faith—when you forgive instead of holding bitterness, when you worship instead of worrying, when you endure instead of giving up.

“Every small victory is evidence that God is at work in us.”

Don’t despise these victories. They may feel hidden, but they shape your heart, prune your character, and prepare you for greater things. God is deepening your roots so you can stand strong.

This week, take time to notice the small victories God has given you. Write them down. Thank Him for them. Celebrate them. The same God who is faithful in the small things will be faithful in the greater things.
